A frequent contender on lists of America’s best beaches, idyllic Crandon Park is part of the tiny isle of Key Biscayne. Flanked by shady palm trees, rather than Miami’s ubiquitous high rises, the park’s family friendly beach has lifeguards and concessions, as well as kiteboarding and SUP rentals.

Full disclosure: At Miamicito, we’re more than a little smitten with Crandon. In fact, it’s where Ayaz proposed to me; he chose the location because it is, without a doubt, one of our happiest “happy spots” in the greater Miami area. Whiling away an afternoon in the shade of a palm tree is simply too easy in Crandon.

Though the beach grows crowded on weekends with families picnicking and University of Miami students doing … whatever it is U of M students do … during the week it’s most often blissfully quiet. In fact, it’s not unusual to have long stretches of sand to yourself.

Pack a picnic and your favorite beach read — Crandon is where you go to let the day slip by into nightfall.
